Matrimonial Property
Matrimonial property means assets acquired during the marriage by one or both spouses. It can also include property owned before the marriage if it was substantially improved during the marriage.
Under Section 76 of Act 164, the court can divide these assets when it grants a divorce.
It looks at money each spouse put in, and at non-money help such as caring for the home and family.
Why it matters: knowing what counts as matrimonial property helps you see what may be shared.
