Editorial Policy
How pages are researched, written and kept accurate.
Our sources
Every page draws on official Malaysian legal sources, including:
- The Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 (Act 164) and its amendments
- Rules of Court 2012 and relevant practice directions
- Malaysian Bar Council guidelines and published opinions
- Gazette notifications and subsidiary legislation
- Published court fee schedules and legal fee guidelines
- Court and government websites, and reputable legal commentary
Where a page uses professional estimates, such as lawyer fee ranges, the Methodology page explains how those figures were put together.
How a page is written and checked
Each guide goes through three steps:
- Research: Pages are researched from primary sources (statutes, court and government sites) and reputable legal commentary, then checked against other official publications.
- Drafting: The page is written in plain language, and every legal term is explained.
- Publication: The page goes live with its sources and its last updated date.
This site gives general information. It is not legal advice, and its pages have not been signed off by a lawyer.
Keeping pages up to date
Family law changes through new legislation, court rules and court decisions. We watch for these changes and update the pages they affect. Figures are re-checked when sources change. Each page shows its last updated date, so you can see how recent it is.
Corrections and feedback
If you spot a mistake or something out of date, please tell us on WhatsApp with the details and, if you can, the correct source. We act on correction requests promptly and update the page when a change is needed.
Editorial independence
Guides are written to inform. No one pays to change what a page says. Any advertising or sponsored content is clearly labelled and kept apart from the guides.
