How this works

Why this tool exists

Choosing a lawyer during a divorce is stressful, and many people speak to more than one first. Some of what you hear is genuine. Some is marketing that sounds like reassurance.

Malaysia’s Legal Profession (Publicity) Rules 2025 take effect on 1 January 2026. They restrict certain claims lawyers make about themselves, such as outcome guarantees, unqualified “best” or “#1” labels and invented success rates.

How to use it

Pick the option closest to what you were told. You get a plain reading of whether that kind of claim is restricted, and a better question to ask instead.

This is not a way to report or accuse a lawyer. It helps you go into your next meeting better informed.

If something feels off

Ask for the basis of the claim: which award, how many cases, what the fee covers. A lawyer who is confident in the answer will usually explain.

Frequently asked questions

Does this mean the lawyer acted improperly?
Not necessarily, and this tool does not accuse anyone. It gives a plain reading of the Rules so you can ask informed questions. The Malaysian Bar Council is the authority on any lawyer's conduct.
When do these rules take effect?
The Legal Profession (Publicity) Rules 2025 take effect on 1 January 2026.
Do these rules apply to this website?
This site is an information resource, not a law firm, so rules written for lawyers' own publicity do not bind it directly. It still avoids this kind of language as a policy. See our Editorial Policy.
Is this tool free?
Yes. It gives general information only and is not a ruling on any claim or lawyer.
