Legal Aid

Legal aid is free or low-cost legal help for people who cannot afford a private lawyer.

In Malaysia, two main bodies provide it for family matters, including divorce:

• the Legal Aid Department (Jabatan Bantuan Guaman)
• the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre

You must meet their eligibility rules.

Why it matters: not having money for a lawyer does not have to stop you from getting a divorce.
