Why does your EPF nomination matter?
Your nomination decides who receives your EPF (KWSP) savings if you pass away. Many people forget to change it after divorce.
The court ends your marriage under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976. It does not update your personal records or nominations. That is your job.
Does divorce change your records automatically?
No. Your IC, bank accounts, insurance and EPF records stay as they were until you update them yourself.
A lawyer can check whether your divorce order affects any of these savings.
What should you update first?
- Your EPF nomination.
- Your IC and passport details, where needed.
- Your bank and other financial accounts.
Keep copies of your decree absolute, the final court order that ends the marriage. You will need it for most of these updates.
